Privacy Policy
Updated October 15, 2026
WriteShape is operated by Brian Day. This page explains where your writing is stored, what account information the app uses, and what happens when you connect a service or contact support.
Writing on your device
Drafts, recovery copies, preferences, writing goals, and pending changes are stored in your browser. Cloud and Drive documents can also leave local copies so you can recover work or continue after a connection drops. Clearing the site's browser data can remove these copies.
If you choose a local folder, the browser asks for permission to read and save files there. Local files do not reach another device unless you copy them or save them to shared storage.
Cloud files and live editing
The WriteShape library stores document contents, filenames, folders, ownership, and saved versions on Cloudflare. Live editing also stores document changes on Cloudflare, including when the file itself is in Google Drive. Collaborators with access receive the document and can see each other's presence, names, and cursors.
WriteShape processes document contents to open, save, recover, export, and share your work. Cloud storage and live editing are not end-to-end encrypted: the service needs to process the text to provide those features. Removing someone's access stops future authorized access; it cannot take back copies they already received.
Accounts and Google Drive
Google sign-in gives WriteShape your Google account identifier, email address, and display name. Public beta signup is open to everyone. People on the former private tester list retain their accounts and hosted-storage access when they sign in with their verified Google email. Authentication cookies keep you signed in. We record your most recent signed-in activity time to count active accounts. This does not record your writing or a browsing history. We also store your access level and any complimentary grant expiry so the app can apply those permissions.
Connecting Google Drive is a separate choice. It requests permission to view and manage Drive files so you can browse existing folders and open and save documents. WriteShape processes the file metadata and contents needed for those actions, using your Google permissions. Connection credentials are encrypted before storage.
Disconnecting Drive in WriteShape removes its stored Drive credentials. You can also revoke access in your Google account. Neither action deletes files in Drive, browser recovery copies, or existing live-editing data stored by WriteShape.
Payments
Stripe provides payment screens and subscription management. WriteShape stores billing identifiers and plan status. Card details are entered into Stripe's screens. During public beta, checkout and billing links are disabled, no payment information is requested, and no paid subscription is created. Earlier sandbox billing records may remain; beta access never automatically becomes a paid subscription.
Error reports and support
Application error logs contain an error reference, the type of request, and its status. That error handler leaves out document text, account identifiers, credentials, and URL query strings. Cloudflare and other service providers may keep their own operational logs.
Report a problem lets you review optional technical details before sending them: app version, browser, screen size, connection and sync status, and recent error references. Those details do not include your writing, filenames, or account email. The report opens in your email app; you choose whether to send it.
Support receives your email address, message, and any attachments you send. Cloudflare forwards support mail to an AgentMail inbox. AI tools may help review reports and prepare fixes. Please review screenshots and leave out private writing, passwords, and payment details.
Keeping and removing data
Local files and Google Drive files are preserved when Premium ends. Hosted storage is separate, invitation-only testing. Removing a storage invitation stops new cloud saves; existing files and their retained versions remain available to the owner to read and download. Premium cancellation does not start a deletion deadline.
Invited storage testers have the current testing allowance of 1 GB, including saved history. Each document keeps its newest 50 previous versions; older versions expire as new saves replace them. Download copies of versions you want to keep longer. Moving a file to Trash preserves its contents and retained history. Local copies remain until you remove them or clear the site's browser data.
Account → Delete account cancels Premium immediately and permanently removes your profile, cloud files and version history, sharing permissions, connected credentials, and associated live-editing storage from active WriteShape servers. Download your cloud files and any earlier versions you want before deleting. WriteShape cannot restore deleted cloud work. Drive files, local copies, and copies others already received are kept.
Provider backups expire within 30 days. A temporary hashed security record blocks old private-preview sign-ins for up to 30 days. Code claim counts are retained without the deleted account identity so single-use codes remain used. Stripe may retain required transaction records. Support emails are separate: contact support@writeshape.com for access or deletion requests concerning those messages.
When you cancel Premium, your optional reason and account email are sent to support. Delivery may be retried if the mail service is unavailable; cancellation does not depend on successful email delivery.
